Driving in New Zealand
Visitors to New Zealand often agree that driving here is a remarkably stress–free experience! Most places aren't too crowded, the roads are in good condition and renting a reliable car doesn't cost the earth.
Here are a few things to remember as you embark on your Kiwi road tour:
- Always drive on the left hand side of the road!
- All occupants of a car must wear seatbelts.
- Town and city speed limits are 50kph in most cases.
- Country and motorway speed limits are 100kph.
- Kiwis' driving habits may be different from your own.
- Be courteous and patient, especially when changing lanes.
